Gait Training
Are you interested in gait training, a form of physical therapy that aims to improve walking abilities and address various problems in the back, thighs, legs, ankles, and feet through targeted exercises and evaluations?
Gait examination involves visually analyzing walking problems and observing the interaction of the low back and joints of the thighs, legs, and feet during different stages of walking.
Subtle gait abnormalities can contribute to or manifest as back, thigh, leg, ankle, and foot problems.
Gait training aims to retrain patients to improve their ability to walk closer to normal.
Gait training may include stretching, strengthening, endurance exercises, balance exercises, visual/video training with feedback, verbal cues for walking pattern improvement, and training on different surfaces.
Various patient populations can benefit from gait training, including post-surgical hip, knee, ankle, and foot patients, post-fracture patients, post-surgical spine surgery patients, patients with joint injuries, patients with spinal cord injuries, vestibular/vertigo patients, neurologically involved patients, patients at risk for falls, stroke patients, and many others.
