The Summit Orthopaedic Residency will provide an advanced evidence-based curriculum to qualified orthopaedic physical therapists to train orthopaedic specialists that exhibit high standards of clinical practice and provide enhanced patient care to the patients we serve. Program Outcomes
The Summit Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency’s outcomes are to:
- The resident will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and affective behavior of an orthopaedic specialist
- The resident will demonstrate specialist-level examination, evaluation, and intervention skills during clinical practice
- The resident will demonstrate a commitment to teaching, critical inquiry, advocacy, and service to the profession or community
- The resident will demonstrate the Core Competencies of a Physical Therapist Resident
Program Costs
- This residency does not require residents to pay tuition
Financial Aid / Stipends
The residency will pay the following residency-related expenses:
- Annual registration fee for the AOPT/PhysioU Practice Guideline Packages
- Registration fee for the APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program – Level 1
Financial Compensation
- The annual salary for a resident is $72,000
- If the resident is a full-time employee and remains a TSPT employee after the residency is completed, the employee will receive a $3000 bonus during the month after completion of the residency
- The annual base salary for a TSPT employee following completion of the residency is based on the current pay scale at the time of hiring.
- If the resident remains a full-time TSPT employee for 12 months after completion of the residency, the employee will receive a $3000 bonus during the month after completion of this first post-residency year
- If the resident remains a full-time TSPT employee for 24 months after completion of the residency, the employee will receive a $6000 bonus during the month after completion of this second post-residency year 3.
Benefits Package
Residents are full-time employees of TSPT, and like all TSPT employees, residents receive:
- Medical, vision, and dental insurance per the company plan (eligible the first month after 60 days of employment)
- Malpractice insurance coverage for duties related to employment with TSPT
- Eligible for the company 401(k) plan
- Two weeks (80 hours) of paid time off (PTO) accrued annually (eligible after 90 days ofemployment)
- Six paid holidays are provided per our policy (eligible after 90 days of employment)
- Student loan forgiveness (up to $5250 annually)
Agreement Duration / Length of Program
The residency duration is a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 48 months to accommodate work life balance.

- 340 hours of didactic content
- 16 hours – APTA’s Level 1 Credentialed Clinical Instructor Course
- 80 hours – AOPT Seminar Series – Guidelines-based Education and Exercise
- 40 hours – Interactive Learning Modules for the Clinical Practice Guidelines
- 96 hours – AOPT Seminar Series – Guidelines-based Diagnosis and Treatment
- 50 hours – Clinical Instruction of DPT and PTA Student Interns
- 30 hours – Item Writing Instruction and Tutoring
- 24 hours – Scholarly or Service Activities
- 4 hours – Reflections on Levels of Physical Therapy Residency Core Competencies
- 1920 hours of patient-care clinic hours
- 48 weeks x 40 hours/week
- 150 hours of 1:1 clinical supervision during patient-care clinic hours
- 1600 hours of unsupervised clinical practice (20 hours/week x 80 weeks)
